Wow. When your alternate choice, due to the original choice being too backwaters, is Salt Lake City Utah…. just, wow.

I’m a retired high school social studies teacher. I primarily taught U.S. History, economics, and civics, and I am appalled at the RW legislators’ attempts to change the curriculum in public schools in social studies and science to reflect their flawed views. They’re too stupid to realize that they’re handicapping the students in their states. Many of these kids will go on to college and won’t be able to compete with other students in science. When they arrive on campus and take their first biology class, they’ll discover that studying creationism won’t help them pass the class. They’ll end up either failing the class, working overtime to learn the things they should have learned in high school, or changing their major. The same thing will happen when they take their first American History course in college. The things they learned in high school will bear little resemblance to what is in the college textbooks. I taught for 33 years, until 2009, and there wasn’t one year in which I didn’t have some parent enter my classroom and try to tell me how to do my job. Teaching is the one profession that a majority of Americans wouldn’t enter for any reason, and it’s the one profession that every Tom, Dick, Harry, and Jane claim they know more about that those of us who trained for the job. Zach and the other students who are standing up for the separation of church and state are to be highly commended for having the courage to go against these dominionists who, if given the chance, would ignore the First Amendment to the Constitution turn this country into a Christian theocracy where ignorance and superstition would be given free reign. The RW legislators in Tennessee changed the state’s science curriculum, and when TN students’ test scores were compared to those of students in other states and found to be abysmal, the legislators cried foul. Now, they want the Education Testing Service to create a specific test keyed to TN’s science standards. ETS has told them it can do this, but it will cost more. The reaction of the nutheads was more whining, this time about the extra costs involved in their attempt to manipulate TN students’ science scores on a nation standardized test. As long as these nutheads keep changing the science curriculum to reflect their own religious beliefs, the science test scores will remain low when they’re compared to those of students in other states. Idiots.
