Ugh.

The worst thing about Hannity and his ilk are their assumption that a person’s nature is unchangeable. “There will always be evil people,” and somehow it’s impossible to change those people through natural means. Supernatural means, maybe, but nothing we humans can do will change a person’s nature.

I find that worldview abhorrent and contra everything the Enlightenment stands for.

I equate to Stranger Danger. Oprah made a big deal out of it-pointing out that most children didn’t know what “stranger” meant and thought a stranger was some evil looking monster. She launched a series of shows on how to explain to your child what a stranger was.

Same with Rapists. Most aren’t some goon lurking in the shadows of a parking lot. They are people we know and often trust. Many don’t think they are rapists. Just drunk and lucky.

Hannity and his followers suffer from the same disease that many of today’s conservatives suffer from—epistemic closure with a strong dose of authoritarianism thrown in. They believe what they believe; they believe they’re always right; they believe that a majority of Americans believe the same thing(s) they do; and they believe that dissent warrants some sort of punishment.

This is just one of the reasons that I think we need to change the idea of “‘No’ means ‘No!’” to “Only “Yes” means “Yes.”” That unless you have explicit consent, you are not to proceed to have sex. Period. The saddest part about “‘No’ means ‘No!’” is the implicit consent of women. It subconsciously sets the default for sex at “yes”, & that “no” is the special circumstance - to be avoided, of course, which is where booze & roofies come in, to get around that. When we put the burden on the man to get the “yes”, we will see a drop in rapes, if only because it will change the mindset, that yes, you HAVE to GET PERMISSION: women’s bodies are THEIRS, NOT YOURS.

A quite frankly statistically false and nihilistic view that states that this scenario is inevitable so we should do nothing to stop it, which comes from either spite or malice towards other human beings. Call it the Ebenezer effect if you will.

You can’t “teach men how not to rape ” . You must throw them in jail the first time , hopefully they haven’t killed , but they eventually will when we give them light sentences . Most rapist /murderers are no strangers to law enforcement .
Trouble with our military is , they do not prosecute many cases , thus women fear even reporting rapes . Unfortiunately it is hard to successfully prosecute even with DNA EVIDENCE.
In the miltary however that is a controlled situation and someone just isn’t getting the word out . Rape will no doubt still occur , but not in the horrendous numbers that now plague the military .

Rapists like pedophiles cannot be reformed , they must either be given life sentences or sentences so severe that they will be too old to overcome a victim after release . Pedophile however can still overcome victims into old age , that is why they should never be rleased at all .

false. Sorry, but both rapists and pedophiles do stop before they’re too old to do it.

Some will stop because they become convinced it’s wrong. Some stop for fear of getting caught and punished again. Some stop only because they can’t see how to get away with it again - because people keep watching them.

And yes, some do it again.

But to claim they never stop, that they are complete recidivists, is wrong. And the people who believe that and act upon it tend to create a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Have you been paying attention?

If you put every college kid in jail who raped a drunk girl … . Yes, that’s what I mean. The numbers are greater than you think. How do you prove that in a court of law? How many of those girls actually come forward and prosecute? How many of them are going to even remember?

Have you been paying attention to Steubenville, OH? It seems that the vast majority of authority figures in that town are coming to the defense of the young man. If the video wasn’t on the internet, she’d have no chance of getting a conviction.

Putting every rapist in jail is as stupid as trying to ban all guns.
