I’m not thrilled with the punishment, in that it is both too little and too much. I’d like to see them spend longer in jail (or juvie, or whatever), but I’m not sure I like the lifetime as a registered sex offender. If I understand correctly, they won’t be able to live near schools, parks, etc., which means pretty much anywhere, get a decent job, or live anything approaching a normal life. Ever.

As bad as their offense was, I don’t think that is a reasonable response. They aren’t adults. They lived in a culture that said what they did was OK. The people around them who enabled the crime aren’t going to be punished at all.

It seems as if the whole city got a slap on the wrist, and a message not to take photographic evidence next time.

As appalled as I am about the short sentence, it may have something to do with the juvenile court system. On the bright side, the rapists will never outrun Google.

One year for rape? Kids caught sexting get harsher sentences than that.

Our legal system makes less sense than Dr Seuss, Pablo Picasso, and Dennis Rodman at an Adventure Time themed LSD party.

A statement that makes sense, and my sentiments exactly. The punishment should be harsher; much harsher.

At the same time, lifetime “sex offender registration” doesn’t make a damn bit of sense to me, in pretty much any case, just for the sheer inconsistency of it. Why is there no “violent offender registration”? Bad way to handle a horrible problem, IMO.

On the flip side of that, it’s probable that the victim will never outrun Google either, and will likely be harassed about this by the less savory elements of society for years to come, as well.
