If one reads the summary, under “messaging”, it is striking how the GOP just won’t accept that the content of the “messages” are also being rejected, not just the means of delivery.

Vague references that the GOP candidates must “speak” to various groups may seem like progress, but look on it at face value: to “speak” does not mean “to listen and accept what we hear back”.

As part of the Growth and Opportunity Project’s effort, focus groups were conducted in Columbus,Ohio, and Des Moines, Iowa, to listen to voters who used to consider themselves Republicans. These are voters who recently left the Party. Asked to describe Republicans, they said that the Party is “scary,” “narrow minded,” and “out of touch” and that we were a Party of “stuffy old men.” This is consistent with the fndings of otherpost-election surveys.

No kidding.

And, I can’t see said narrow minded old men changing any time soon.

The best thing the GOP/RNC can do is just shut up, disband, and go away. They are dinosaurs.

Thank you for posting this and I did read the whole thing. It seems like they’ve identified some of their major issues. Whether they can implement working solutions or not remains to be seen.

Yeah, for all the $$ they spent on researching this they still don’t get it. Now they’re going to further alienate those who already dislike them by treating them as if they’re stupid enough to buy stale, moldy bread just because they slapped a “Freshly Baked!” sticker on the package.

The numbers speak for themselves.

The base has been convinced by hacks like Rush Limbaugh and the rest of the RW talk radio sewer that the only problem the GOP has is that it isn’t right wing enough. As long as they control the message, the GOP is just going to go farther and farther into the abyss.

They have to stop being scary, narrow-minded and out of touch, which they don’t seem willing to do. Instead, they want to put their scary, narrow-minded and out of touch product in soothing, comforting new packaging.

They have a platform perfectly tailored to appeal to married, white evangelical and born-again Christians, and not much of anyone else. A big part of their problem is base capture; they created a platform to get these voters, and from those ranks much of the current GOP leadership has arisen. For example, it doesn’t make much sense for a political party to be so virulently opposed to contraceptives when the Catholic Church can’t even convince most of its own parishoners not to use them. And even if they can get arms length from the fundamentalists, their economic message of low taxes and virtually no government services simply isn’t going to win over many single women, a more important bloc of voters to the President than even Hispanics.

23 Primary debates is pretty stupid.
