I’d like to see him really piss them off. How about supporting birth control?

Not going to happen. For the pope to do that kind of 180 would cause a massive crisis within the church. Pope Francis wants to move in a different direction, yes, but he doubtless knows he’ll have to move relatively slowly.

Another issue is that of Catholic theology, of which a good deal weighs against birth control. Creating new theology and getting it accepted is the work of years, sometimes decades, not months.

Eastern Christians allow for birth control (in marriage) and married clergy. It would not be that much of a stretch for the Pope to claim he was making sure Christianity was becoming more uniform with the older eastern churches who are not liberal by any means.

I find it insane that Irish Catholic clergy are not allowed to marry but eastern Greek rite Catholics in the Ukraine or Lebanon can have married clergy. It literally makes no sense.

And here I thought someone would misinterpret the feet washing for creeping Sharia law.

Easter Christians also try to explain away government-sanctioned rape (or flat out deny it. Or, in the case of the Estonian Orthodox Church, aren’t even allowed in the room, as the Russian Orthodox Church refuses to acknowledge Estonia.

No. To me, you are the person who advocates for rapists, specifically the rapists who attacked Bosnian Women.

To me, all you followers of the Abrahamic god follow a god who specifically ordered his people to rape and murder including children.

The Abrahamic god you follow said so in the old testament and the koran. It did not say so in the new testament but christians claim it is linked to the old testament and jesus is the same god that ordered his followers to rape and murder women and children. Muhamed condoned rape and murder just like moses and by extension jesus who is the same god as the god that told moses to rape and murder.

The bosnian muslims served a islamist madman who made alliances with al-qaeda and the serbs has every right to resist the break up of their secular and ethnically mixed state and to resist being ruled by such a religionist madman.

9/11 was carried out by bosnian muslim jihadists army veterans. So my sympathy for their cause is nill.

Updinged because of this:

Reversed the upding because of this:

Two? of the jihadists fought in Bosnia - does this somehow implicate all Bosnian muslims in terrorism, or for that matter exhonerate Misolevic of his persecution of them?

re: #10 Jimmah

Milosevic did not persecute Muslims in Bosnia no matter what the western press says. The Serbs were fighting a defensive war against rebels that linked themselves to genocidal regimes from WW2. The Bosnian Muslim breakaway state had as president a former Nazi SS supporter who declared democracy was not compatible with Islam and in Croatia you had a breakaway regime that rehabilitated Nazi era nationalist symbols and was recruiting neonazis to fight on their side.

These Bosnian Muslims did not just happen to have 2 9/11 terrorists in their army, they had a whole corps of head chopping jihadist in their service.

In New York, where I am from we actually have had Croatian nationalists set off terrorist bombs that killed New Yorkers and Bosnian Muslim jihadists that killed New Yorkers. So why should I support their cause against the Serbs?

Last but not least it was the Serbs that were ethnic cleansed from Croatia and Kosovo under the watchful and I dare say approving eyes of the Western powers that cloaked their geopolitics in “humanitarian war” terms

re: #11 Destro

Destro, you have never been to any of the Balkan states, right?
It shows.

I have travelled quite extensively to all states of former Yugoslavia, and I am fond of all of them - including Serbia. All of them have their extremists, too.
BUT you cannot deny the primary responsibility of the Milosevic regime in the wars.

Have you ever asked yourself why the commander of the Sarajevo territorial defense (fighting, according to your fucked up narrative, for Islamic supremacism/nazism/whatever…) was… a Serb?

Have you ever met young Serbian liberals, artists etc and asked them about the atmosphere during the Milosevic years?

Have you been insulted by young Serb nationalists while taking pictures of the remains of the Ferhadija mosque in Banja Luka? (One of the most beautiful mosques in the Balkans, dynamited to the ground by the Serbs - the Serbian mayor at the time went as far as denying mosques had ever existed in Banja Luka)

I could multiply the examples.

You can be a friend of the Serbs and Serbian culture without denying the crimes of Serb nationalists in the Croatian and Bosnian wars. You can defend Serbian refugees from Krajina and Kosovo without denying that the widespread ethnic cleansing in Bosnia was for the most part the work of Serb nationalists, and without denying the quasi-apartheid that had been in place in Kosovo for ten years, followed by the mass expulsion of Albanians during the 1998 war. Witnessing the plight of Albanian refugees, an official of the Serbian church actually wept, and said later that seeing those heartbreaking scenes, he knew at once that there would be revenge, and that it would soon be the turn of the Serbs.

About Krajina and Kosovo Serbs - they are also victims, yes. In part because they have been used as pawns by the Serbian regime - and let down by the same. One of the most shameful actions of Milosevic was relocating the Krajina refugees to Kosovo, an already impoverished and over-populated region where ethnic tensions were rife, in a bid to alter the demographic balance in favor of Serbian rule. Of course it did not go well (I have been to Kosovo a few times, including the Serbian enclaves).

I usually like you, but I have this to say - I am sick and about to cry and shout and to hit the wall in anger each time you write about the Balkans.

Please stop this, really. Read from multiple sources. And go travel there, maybe, it’s a beautiful part of the world. But stop this.

Wow, you went from just denying warcrimes to denying any persecution of Muslims whatsoever. That’s some hardcore denial right there.

You’re a fanatic. You’re fine on subjects unless they happen to coincide with your fanaticism. Since your fanaticism is anti-Americanism, that happens to be a lot.
