Powerful accusations call for strong evidence. It ain’t here. These guys are as credible as the Heritage Foundation. Same coin, flip side.

Those allegations have actually been floating around since Saddam Hussein had his propaganda machine push them in the media back in 1996. So Democracy Now is actually recycling propaganda first spewed by Tariq Aziz and Baghdad Bob.

Verdict: MAJOR FAIL

Believe it or not, the medical research community does research that one can use to check claims.

Here is the PubMed search for “Iraq depleted uranium”
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov

Here is one of the latest papers on the subject, that tries to summarize the research:

Birth defects in Iraq and the plausibility of environmental exposure: A review

An increased prevalence of birth defects was allegedly reported in Iraq in the post 1991 Gulf War period, which was largely attributed to exposure to depleted uranium used in the war. This has encouraged further research on this particular topic. This paper reviews the published literature and provided evidence concerning birth defects in Iraq to elucidate possible environmental exposure. In addition to published research, this review used some direct observation of birth defects data from Al-Ramadi Maternity and Paediatric Hospital in Al-Anbar Governorate in Iraq from1st July 2000 through 30th June 2002. In addition to depleted uranium other war-related environmental factors have been studied and linked directly or indirectly with the increasing prevalence of birth defects. However, the reviewed studies and the available research evidence do not provide a clear increase in birth defects and a clear indication of a possible environmental exposure including depleted uranium although the country has been facing several environmental challenges since 1980.

I’ll also note that petro-chemicals are known to cause all sorts of problems, not just cancer but also birth defects. In Louisiana along the portion of the Mississippi river central part of the state where there are many petrochemical plants there are more of these type of medical problems than in other parts of the US.

Russ Campbell’s Blog: Bill C-23, Fair Elections Act Seems Now on Solid Ground
Now that a Senate committee has recommended nine changes to Bill C-23, Fair Elections Act, the legislation seems pretty solid. And, since Pierre Poilievre has, apparently, indicated privately that he's open to changes, an amended version of the bill will likely become law by this summer. We would probably have gotten to this point earlier had not the minister responsible for the bill ...

New York Electoral College: State Joins National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
Ben Mathis-Lilley, Slate: New York Electoral College: State Joins National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
