Steven Smith, Ohio Man Who Sexually Assaulted 6-Month-Old Baby Girl To Death, Seeks Mercy

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Condemned killer Steven Smith’s argument for mercy isn’t an easy one. Smith acknowledges he intended to sexually assault his girlfriend’s 6-month-old daughter but says he never intended to kill the baby.

The girl, Autumn Carter, of Mansfield, died because Smith was too drunk to realize his sexual assault was killing the child, Smith’s attorneys planned to tell the Ohio Parole Board on Tuesday. And Ohio law is clear, they say: a death sentence requires an intent to kill the victim.

I’m actually opposed to the death penalty, but for this guy, I’d make an exception. Hell, I’d volunteer to throw the switch myself.

There is a point where the crime is so horrific and depraved so as to deserve the death penalty.

This is way beyond it.

I had a hard time reading a completely unrelated article at huffpost because this headline was in the sidebar. Now it’s here. Must we put the most disturbing things imaginable in unavoidable places? What compelled you to register and post this here?

I don’t think the whole thing has to be in the headline, though. Unwarranted sensationalism. Expected at huffpost, but not here. And from a hatchling who wants to be the one to kill the perp.

I do get oversensitive at times, I know, but I don’t see the need for this.

As Joanne said, as disturbing as the story is, it is news and worthy of discussion.

As for why I chose to register and post it, I’ve been reading LGF for quite a while and have been thinking about registering and contributing to the community for some time. I chose to start with this story because the details of the case struck me so strongly and also simply because everyone has to start somewhere. I’d rather do it with an post that might generate discussion and commentary than some fluff piece that barely merits attention.

As for me wanting to be the one to kill the perp, you’ll have to forgive my obvious use of hyperbole.
