One may also question whether a gun would have been appropriate, since as far as I can tell, no-one’s life or limb was threatened.

(Re comment #1: Purse snatchers look for the easy targets. Make sure you’re holding the strap, and don’t lay it on top of something where someone could walk up and take it, and they’ll skip to the next likely “candidate.” Don’t forget that laptops, phones and tablets are just as snatchable — that’s what get’s grabbed around my area.)

The man was well trained , since if he was carrying a gun , he would have to have had a permit , and that requires a training course . Any one possessing a Conceal and Carry Weapons Permit KNOWS you can not shoot at a fleeing suspect and/or vehicle .HATS OFF TO THIS GUY ,what he did was risky. The thief could have had a knife or gun and turned on him .

NEVER PUT YOUR HANDBAG IN THE “BABY SEAT” OF SHOPPING CART. Keep it crossways over your shoulder.

To avoid getting mugged like this , the easiest and safest precaution to take is , observe the big picture . Be aware of anyone around you , the element of surprise is key for the thief . Once the element of surprise is removed , he ‘ll have to choose another target . If you see someone suspicious make eye contact before you are in a position too close to escape . In the city there’s usually someone close by , but in a suburban parking lot , you may be a great distance to your car , in this case you can always ask for an escort or follow someone else out .
And of course follow your good safety proceedure with a good deed , notify police of suspicious characters , your gut is usually right .
