On Friday, when the price of gold plunged we said it was “great news.” That crash is continuing, with gold now below $1400/oz.

The idea behind saying the gold news “great news” is basically this:

The last few years have seen a major ideological battle take place.

On one hand you have established economists, who believe the government has tools at its disposal to address a crisis. These tools include deficit spending and a violent expansion of the Fed’s balance sheet.

FDR made the price of gold $35.00 way back when.

Now I hear the Fox News Drones are buying Silver. We get to watch it climb to unknown heights.

When it’s down to around $600 again & silver is proportionate, I’ll be happy. Then maybe the gold bugs will shut up and I’ll be able to afford a nice collection of Morgan & Peace dollars and maybe some Thalers too.

Gold was at $ 30 in 1967. It went to $800 and then dropped to $400 . Gold goes up when th markey goes down . The high prices were a sign of no confidence in the dollar or the economy . With the market approaching 15 , gold has nowhere else to go but down . There are tons of money waiting to jump into equities again ….thus confidence in the economy and the market …that’s why it’s good news .
Of course the pessimism and fear has been hyped and partially driven by Conservative talk show hosts predicting doom and gloom [which is secretly their wish] but then reality intrudes . Gold is not finished going down .

The inflation that all the gold buyers and sellers were betting on ….fizzled out . Inflation is expected to be at or below 2% throughout 2013 .
