To be honest, I have no interest in anyone dumb enough to be “influenced” by advertising. And thus don’t give a shit about what “messages” they’re being sent.

ah, well, you see the marketing industry has many decades of manipulating even those who are feel they are too smart to be influenced by them.

I use Axe shower gel as bubble bath because I don’t come out of the tub smelling like a cupcake. lol

Their advertising has been repulsive.

Unfortunately, intelligence has little to do with it. Physicians are shocked when shown how much their prescribing habits have been influenced by Pharma marketing.
If your clothes, haircut, home furnishings and decor pass for “normal” - you’ve been influenced by advertising.

5 DO WINGNUT WORDS SHOW THEY EVOLVED BRAINS?11!!  Sun, Apr 21, 2013 4:23:44pm

I remember years ago reading a paper by someone who worked for Quantico’s FBI laboratory who studied serial killers. One of the things they noticed while studying our popular culture is while sex and violence had for some time been loosely linked, it was romantic, almost flowery love, even for men, that was still quite dominant up until the end of the 19Th century.

They noticed a change starting around the beginning of the 20th century with the introduction of movies. It was the popularity of westerns and war movies in particular-that also seemed to have a side story of romance- that seemed to strongly link sex-particularly male sexuality-with violence.

Not sure if a study of serial killers relates to this article but this post made me think of that.

I’d love a link if you find the article or pdf. ;)

Sorry No. It was like over 20 years ago. But I believe it was by John Douglas who was one of the pioneers of serial killer profiling and the inspiration for the Jack Crawford character in “Silence of the Lambs”. I think it was an excerpt from his book ‘MindHunter’.

Fortunately for me, I’m not one of those people. (BTW, your reply to this is “That’s just what one of those people would think.”)

They don’t.

Now, would either of your two like to learn more about me, or would you prefer to keep interacting with an imaginary character that exists only in your mind?

Also, equating physicians with “intelligence” is a mistake. But a common one. Perhaps inspired by the fear of injury and illness. In times of stress and uncertainty, it’s comforting to imagine that one’s doctor is really smart and will make it all better, just like mommy would when you were 3, and not just an mediocre, semi-competent, mortal, tired, lazy fuck-up, or, in other words, a normal person.
