Building Blast Hits Czech Capital
A powerful explosion has hit the center of Prague, injuring around 40 people in what initial indications suggested was a gas explosion.
Police and rescue teams were at the scene.
Prague’s mayor, Bohuslav Svoboda, was quoted as saying from the scene that there were fears that “three or so” people might still be inside the structure.
Witnesses reported smelling gas after the incident, which closed off a heavily touristed section of town.
Police said the blast occurred in a building near the National Theater, not far from the Vltava River.
