Self-actualization is the highest step in Maslow’s hierarchy, and if you ask me, these guys have reached that level. They’re not controlled not by a need to achieve in their careers, they have fulfilled all of the lower steps of the hierarchy and are now motivated by pure greed.

Hmmm! Let’s see.

My disability payments last year were $9,924.60. The subsidy for my apartment is about the same. So, say ~$20,000 was my income last year.

That means fifty years to make a million, or slightly less than the length of my life so far.

I’m so fucking heartbroken for these poor, poor people. What hideously deprived lives they lead. ///

Stupid fools who don’t know their history might set off a revolution driven by their excesses.

I’d be all for that, except that revolutions have a nasty tendency to have massive collateral damage, where lots of people end up dying for no real reason.

There’s a reason I keep hearing this song when I read this sort of thing.

If they take home $600,000 after taxes and before other expenses on that $1 million salary, I don’t want them handling my finances. It should be at least $700,000, and reasonable financial juggling (pay your accountant $5,000 to find the hoops) should push it even higher.

From an accuracy standpoint, I don’t know what the tax loopholes are like in the UK, which is where this article is based.

That being said, these people are making shitty financial decisions and I still don’t want them making decisions about my finances. First priority is retirement saving. Second priority is making sure the day-to-day finances are correct. Third priority is making sure we are happy.

Keeping up with the Joneses does not appear on the priority list at all.

Or as the people they’re likely voting for might say: They don’t have a revenue problem, they have a spending problem.
