Harvard Professor and author Niall Ferguson says John Maynard Keynes’ economic philosophy was flawed and he didn’t care about future generations because he was gay and didn’t have children.

This bullshit is the usual right wing overkill reaction to criticism of their selfish heartless policies. When you refuse to care about other people, you know the ones who actually exist, you pretend that you’re just selflessing supporting the all the people who DON’T actually exist, you know those who haven’t been born yet.

Pure bullshit. And the anger is from being judged for being a greed-head and hypocrite.

Ferguson made a career of saying dumb and erroneous things. Even a loyal friend like Andrew Sullivan, who’s charitable enough to not rip into him for this latest screw up, has no trouble linking to his history of awful things he’s said.

The offending idea is not an original one:

re: #3 philosophus invidius

That’s horrible.
So some dickhead professor made these unwarranted bigoted statements in class, he was admonished by the Provost that he was creating a hostile environment against homosexuals and should stop, the god Damn ACLU defended his right “academic freedom” to be a bigoted asshole in class and the University president took his side…

Meanwhile there isn’t the tiniest trace of any sort of academic freedom for teachers at any level BELOW college, where everything teachers say is totally under control.

re: #4 stabby

To be fair, teachers below the college level are not academics. There are many reasons why “academic freedom” is unique to university faculty and does not apply to schoolteachers.

Keynes remains one of the most important economists of the 20th Century and odds are the General Theory will still be used in Economics centuries from now. It may well be to “disprove it” as many try to do today with Karl Marx, Adam Smith, or David Ricardo.

Nothing Ferguson has written will be remembered more than a decade after he’s in his grave.

This lashing out is his way of dealing with the jealousy that knowledge causes.

Grovelling apology time:

But in a statement posted on his website, he said it was obvious that people who do not have children also care about future generations. The historian also insisted he was not homophobic.

“My disagreements with Keynes’s economic philosophy have never had anything to do with his sexual orientation,” he wrote.

“It is simply false to suggest, as I did, that his approach to economic policy was inspired by any aspect of his personal life. As those who know me and my work are well aware, I detest all prejudice, sexual or otherwise.”

In 1926, Mr Keynes married Lydia Lopokova, a Russian ballerina, and Prof Ferguson also said he had forgotten that she had miscarried.

Whit a bawbag.

What an embarrassment to Harvard. Of course assholes like this are the price we pay to protect academic freedom.

Amazing. Ferguson, a historian first and foremost, fails to understand the first rule of history:

Those poeple who have lost a sense of history are going to have to relive it themselves.

Has he said this about anyone who is not homosexual and doesn’t have children?

Don’t know-best ask Sully.

Ferguson’s grovelling apology is of course entirely insincere:

Besides being a bigot, Ferguson also provides intellectual cover for the austerians, which is causing vast amounts of unnecessary pain and suffering.
