“I’ve never done it because I am convinced they’ll send in provocateurs and stage something to demonize gun owners,†Jones said.

Of course…

Well I already was going to stay out of DC that day. Now I definitely will. Really, you’re a fucking moron asking for trouble to hold a loaded weapon rally on what is probably the most packed D.C will be. You want to own guns? Awesome but stop acting like a bunch of fucking children on the issue.

Yeah, it’s pretty insane down there on the 4th. Tried it one year.

My guess is not much more than a dozen crazies will show up for that march.

I don’t know if I’d take that bet.

From that article:

Paul wrote that sending Kokesh to Congress “would be a tremendous victory for the Freedom Movement, and if we come together and stand behind him, he has a real chance to win.”

Ron Paul’s campaign director then was Jesse Benton. Benton now works for Rand Paul. Kokesh was no less looney when Paul endorsed him than he is now. The Pauls encourage fringy people like Kokesh, then claim to be distancing themselves from them later.

The Facebook page says 2,395 are signed up to go, with 2,136 more ‘maybes’.

Its easy to say you’ll go while sitting in a comfy chair in front of your computer. I’ll be surprised if even a hundred show up.

Isn’t it against the law in DC to carry a loaded gun. ? or is that just within a certain area around the Capitol Building and the White House.

They’re called the 101st chairborne for a reason.

Plus, there’s a decent chance of arrests if they go through with this, and the prospect of arrest tends to efficiently separate the talkers from the doers.

Matthew Reichbach @fbihop

@Green_Footballs Kokesh was last in the news for reading an email about assassinating Romney. bit.ly

If you read that article, the reason that Kokesh was against assassinating Mitt Romney and President Obama to get Ron Paul into the White House wasn’t because he opposed a violent overthrow of the government — he just thought it wouldn’t be politically expedient to do so.

13 wrenchwench  Tue, May 7, 2013 1:29:46pm

From the Washington Post:

[…]

On the blog, Kokesh wrote that he is planning a nonviolent protest, but he won’t predict what could happen if the police move in with force. He urged protesters to submit to arrests and said the group will peacefully turn back if denied entry into the District. But separately, he said some protesterers plan to take a step into the District to prompt an arrest.

“We will march with rifles loaded and flung across our backs to put the government on notice that we will not be intimidated and cower in submission to tyranny,” Kokesh wrote on the Internet site. “Should we meet physical resistance, we will peacefully turn back, having shown that free people are not welcome in Washington. … We are truly saying in the SUBTLEST way possible that we would rather die on our feet than live on our knees.”

In an interview, Kokesh said said the march is not aimed at protesting the District’s gun laws specifically but is “more to assert our rights as individuals on Independence Day.”

He said he wants to work with law enforcement and hopes that [D.C. Police Chief Cathy L.] Lanier will make an exception to the law and grant his group safe passage, and even a police escort, through the District.

[…]

I think the only escort they might get is into the paddy wagon.

Kokesh and some of his pals have been arrested in DC before. Not armed, though.

15 Tigger2  Tue, May 7, 2013 1:34:06pm

I wonder how true this would be

“We will march with rifles loaded and flung across our backs to put the government on notice that we will not be intimidated and cower in submission to tyranny,”

If they came face to face with a division of Reg Army.

Hope they get done with this march before the fireworks start…
