More: Louisiana Court Rules That School Voucher Plan Violates State Constitution
Louisiana’s highest court ruled Tuesday that Gov. Bobby Jindal’s hallmark school voucher plan violates the state’s constitution because of how it is funded.
The state Supreme Court found that the school voucher plan is illegal because it diverts tax dollars to private schools from Louisiana’s “minimum foundation program,” which was created under the state constitution to pay for public schools.
It was a 6-1 ruling against Jindal, and his “it’s fine to give public funds to private religious schools that teach creationism” program.
Only down side I see, it’s ruling was based on HOW the program was funded, not the larger issue in my mind of “why are taxpayers supporting a religious school?”, but at least it’s a start.
