Math smart does not equal geo politics smart. Perhaps an opposite phenomenon is in play here.

I don’t think that first paragraph makes sense.

“His whole computer-based communication system runs on a chip designed by Israel’s Intel team. I suggest that if he truly wants to pull out of Israel, he should also pull out his Intel Core i7 from his tablet.”

If this is true then Mr. Hawking’s boycott is especially foolish.

Tell me about it. One of my best friends is a genius-level astrophysicist who is a conservative for no better reason than because he’s convinced himself that Republicans believe in market efficiency and Democrats don’t. And because math people tend to have as a weakness an inability to deal with data that doesn’t neatly fit into an on or off position, he just can’t recalibrate.

If we are going to pay attention to Stephen Hawking on the Middle East situation, they maybe we should also take financial advice from Mozart or learn about relationships from Einstein.

Gee he must hate all Jews then.

Gotta love the overt dishonesty here regarding anyone who dislikes Israel’ policies regarding settlements and Palestinians. It’s as if you know you haven’t got much of a case, so you present the arguments of those you disagree with dishonestly, or call them antisemitic. Much of the time, both.

How intellectually solid, and politically brave of you.

And love the Northern Ireland false equivalence. More ‘honesty’ and ‘bravery’. And please, tell us: what is Hawking’s stance on that? Clearly you know it, right?

It’s because the writer thinks he’s being clever.
