Add an IQ test to immigration so we can weed out the potential conservative voters!

Richwine is opening a Pandora’s Box: if we are to judge immigrants on IQ, why no voters?

Mandatory contraception for conservatives so they don’t pass those low IQs on to the next generation!

Or candidates?

Richwine is demonstrably capable of appreciating the limits of IQ as a public policy tool when taking it seriously would cut against conservatives.

Therefore, his use of IQ against immigrants is malicious, not clueless.

The whole article is Richwine complaining a) that just because conservatives have lower average IQs doesn’t mean they aren’t smart, and b) “common sense and wisdom” are just as important as IQ, and conservatives have those in spades.

In other words, arguments that could just as easily be applied to Hispanics (if you’re into the whole IQ-spanish-speaking-country-of-origin thing), except that ol’ JR doesn’t see fit to make *that* connection.

Back to Mr Sciency Racist:

But questioning the IQ of opponents is a specialty of liberals.

Sounds extra Sciency!

Why no discussion on low IQ conservative intellectuals? I read a Thomas Sowell bit over the weekend and felt much stupider.

I don’t think the present batch of GOP voters, representatives and candidates are stupid. But they are, as Heinlein put it, ignorant and prejudiced by their environment.

I believe Mr. Weaksauce stands as an exemplar.

I think some high-level conservatives have gotten wind of the links between conservative beliefs, authoritarianism, fearfulness, IQ, and some conservatives’ negative attitudes toward their fellow human beings. If these studies’ results were drawing the same conclusions about liberals, many conservatives would be crowing about it, but since they’re not, some of them are using any tactic they think will draw our attention away from these results. I expect to see more of this type of BS as time goes by.

I find it bizarre that any serious academic or public policy analyst would use IQ as a means to study, measure, argue for or against, anything at all in the public sphere. It’s simply not a relevant measurement. It’s the kind of science that the Nazis loved to exploit.
It’s cultural bias has long been recognized, and anyone who uses it as a means to ‘measure’ or ‘study’ the intelligence of a particular race, knows before their work has even started what the outcome will be. It’s rather overt racism by default. It’s the starting point.
On the other hand, though not really much of a indicator of anything, it is quite fascinating - and as a liberal, entertaining, that within ‘the white race’(I can’t believe I wrote that! Maybe some freckle cells have made it to my brain?), those with lower IQs vote republican - or in certain states, they’ll also vote (faux)libertarian. When debating a right winger(including ‘libertarians’, many of whom bizarrely consider themselves to be in the center - showing how little they pay attention to reality), you can tell how lazy, dishonest and uniformed most of them are. But I know that that has little to nothing to do with IQ level.
