Coke by-product? That was something I wasn’t aware of. Suddenly the greed for tar sand is beginning to make sense. We’ve been calling them “oil sands” despite barely being able to add any of this to our gasoline. We should’ve been calling them “coal sands” or “tar coal.”

In fact, I like the later better. “Tar coal” makes for easy, catchy, puns for use in protest slogans.

Given that it’s Detroit, a mound of carbon ash is likely classifiable as ‘urban renewal’.

Nothing wrong here. Go back to sleep. Just the wind. Business would really boom if we could only get the boot of the evil EPA and DER and EPA off the necks of companies whose vision of the future looks a lot like 1900 and worse. Now stop coughing and pay no attention to your water. It’s the minerals.

I drove through Detroit a couple of years ago and couldn’t believe what I saw. They sky was yellow and there were mounds big ones of all sorts of what I can only assume was the byproduct of some kind of mining or other industrial processing.

The environment looked toxic.

It was a scene out of what I would expect to see in a 3rd world country processing waste. Very sad. I remember visiting family in Detroit when I was a kid and thinking how nice and green everywhere was.

Why do people who don’t live in Detroit think that we are some Mad Max, anarchic apocalyptic hellscape?

There are still nice places here. Also great sports teams.
