These are the Obama Dems who organized the OfA “Border States” effort that took Florida against expectations. If they can’t take Texas this go-around, they will certainly make the TPGOP dump their piggybanks into it.

Even if it doesn’t turn blue, even if it only goes blue once every 2-3 cycles, its going to freak them out and make them dump enough money into the TV advertising that I imagine that TV station owners will start using laminated $100 bills to pave their driveways…and anything that makes them waste money is a good thing

This is why the GOP as it currently exists cannot stand if it ever wants to win another presidential election. Without the Hispanic vote, the GOP has already lost Florida to Obama in two consecutive elections. When Texas Hispanics start flexing their political muscles, it will be literally impossible for the GOP to win the White House without significantly broadening their appeal, and that means they will have to ditch the racism, or accept permanent non-governing status.

Turns out the projections of the electorate in Texas are probably inaccurate. So it may take until 2028 or later for the Democrats to be competitive there.

The fear of Texas turning blue is one of the primary reasons that state Republicans are trying to get the 1967 & 1972 Voting Rights Acts overturned. Those laws are the firewall that have been blocking their efforts to disenfranchise African-American and Hispanic voters via district gerrymandering, closing or severely reducing hours of voter registration locations in minority districts - while not doing the same for Republican districts, Voter ID laws that are de facto poll taxes, and attempts to reinstitute Jim Crow-era “literacy tests”. Texas is also home to one of the most organized voter-intimidation groups in recent times, the Tea Party-affilated “True the Vote” organization.
