He seems to have been very ill-handled by the military. Normally, I would be the first to say “Fry him!”, but he had no business being deployed there in the first place - & he knew it himself, & was ignored. A tragedy all around.

I don’t believe in the death penalty.

All this illustrates is the continuing truth that we have basically achieved very little in Afghanistan, at enormous cost. In fact we may well have made things worse for the long term.

My only exception to my general opposition to the death penalty is when there is an admission as to the worst kinds of war crimes and the local populace is calling for it and its legal where the crime was committed.
