US Sgt Who Murdered 16 Afghan Women and Children to Escape Death Penalty
Staff Sergeant Robert Bales is going to avoid having to face the death penalty for the murder last year of 16 Afghan villagers due to a plea agreement wherein he will plead guilty to the offense in exchange for a life sentence.
Meanwhile, the U.S. government has paid $50,000 for each victim to the surviving relatives as compensation or something, I don’t know. A price tag on a human life is as bizarre as this soldier being offered a plea agreement in this context.
