Two maids in Saudi Arabia get 10 years, 1,000 lashes for sorcery
A “compassionate” sentence considering they escaped being executed.

1000 lashes sounds like a torture killing to me.

It’s not all at once, it’s over the 10 years.

Well that’s all right then. How can there be so many insane people allowed to wield power over others’ lives?

The money we pay them for their oil probably doesn’t hurt.
Saudi Arabia has an oil-based economy with strong government controls over major economic activities. It possesses about 17% of the world’s proven petroleum reserves, ranks as the largest exporter of petroleum, and plays a leading role in OPEC. The petroleum sector accounts for roughly 80% of budget revenues, 45% of GDP, and 90% of export earnings. Saudi Arabia is encouraging the growth of the private sector in order to diversify its economy and to employ more Saudi nationals. cia.gov
Although Far East Asia is received an estimated 54 percent of Saudi Arabia’s crude oil exports in 2012, Saudi Arabia still ranked second after Canada as a petroleum exporter to the United States. eia.gov

Yet more ridiculous and cruel injustice from the Kingdom of Soddy Barbaria.

Rosiee isn’t saying its all right, just that the lashes aren’t a death sentence given how they are to be administered. They are still torture.

It’s the 21st century. We were all supposed to have flying cars and jetpacks by now; instead, we still have people being tortured and imprisoned for casting magic spells. The more things change, the more we poor, fucked-up humans stay the same. Sometimes, I truly despair for our species.

Even if the cruel stupidity of dark ages theocracy is avoided, there are lots of other ways to screw things up.
