You’re a wonderful writer.

Losing a friend when you’re young is just awful.

My friend Adam was out hunting on his parents land, and he came upon a barbed wire fence. He first placed his shotgun on the other side of the fence before he attempted to climb over.

Evidently he accidentally kicked the gun over and this somehow resulted in the shot gun firing and taking most of his right leg off. He bled out right there. His father found him that night.

I also had a friend that killed himself with a .357 magnum when he was 17.

This is why I have become, probably unjustly, distrustful of firearms in the hands of minors.

Heartfelt and well written, thank you for sharing that story.

I admit that I am terrified of car accidents now. There are certain people who if they are running late and haven’t called I will start freaking out. Most of them know and so folks let me know. But there are days where I’ll work myself into a bad place until my husband gets home, for example.

Carrie’s dad got stuck in the traffic from the accident, not knowing it was her.

I keep in touch with her parents because it helps them to know that she’s not forgotten, that she’s very much missed and still in our hearts too.

At least that fear is rational. If something kills you it’s likely to be a car, gun or doctor. Skydivers honestly admit that the dangerous part of a jump day is the drive to the dropzone.

Guns don’t terrify me. I can accept cancer or other health risks. But car accidents, especially when I am getting ready to travel for some reason…

They did donate her corneas. It was all they could donate.
