I really don’t understand why they keep doing these research reports when it’s obvious that the party doesn’t intend to change any of its’ policies. They keep claiming that they have a “communication problem,” but what they primarily have is a policy problem, along with attitude and authoritarian problems, among others.

From what I can tell, these reports tend to be driven by the younger elements in the GOP (e.g., college republicans as in the OP). They imagine that if the GOP were to focus on its core mission of hating on the poor, and dispenses with most/all of the so-con baggage, they could get a larger share of the young electorate.

This could actually work well enough to get the GOP back in power, so I’m happy to see it isn’t being implemented.

The Presidential debates showed that they have an asshole problem. They’re the party of assholes who call for guys with cancer to be abandoned to die, boo gay soldiers, boo contraception, cheer for the death penalty and boo letting the children of immigrants go to college at a resident rate in the state that they’re residents in…

So the only question is, can the party of assholes attract a majority? The question is a cynics delight.

The GOP solution to the problem: Raise the voting age to 50.

EPR is probably right, it may be the younger generation requesting these studies, but I also think it is so the GOP can plausibly say they’re interested in solving the problem of dwindling base and expanding appeal to minorities… When they ‘re really not, they are doing studies like this with one side of their mouths, and out the other side, are trying to convince the rest of society that the GOP is actually right about everything and everyone else is a “sheeple.”

If they had a moment of self reflection, they would actually see (Majii’s right) it’s the policies that are wrong, not the way everyone else perceives their polices…

Only so long before they’ll have to start worrying about older voters, too, as they start slowly realizing they’re no longer voting for the Republican party of their younger days, but a bizarre perversion of it.
