Ever wonder how old scrap jewelry becomes pure 24kt again? This is exactly how.
We put on this demonstration for a bunch of students from the Gemological Institute, a premiere gemology and jewelry making school. At the time we webcast it, and now we have the nice edited version of the demo up for your edification.
This video shows the actual gold refining process from melting the scrap into shot (Not a bar for assay). you will see the melt, the dissolve in our lab beakers, and the precipitation of the pure gold from solution. In the end we re melt the pure to make some shot for later use. In this case we actually then blended into 14kt and cast. But that video is for another day.
