Foreign object sodomy has been part of the initiation (hazing) ritual at Texas high schools for generations. Last year, I wrote rather circumspectly about this in a post about the extraordinarily virulent homophobia prevalent in rural Texas.

When all of American culture not only allows but actually celebrates rape in prison, color me surprised. Just another extension of giving it to “those that deserve it”.

Punishment for rape should be life in prison, without parole.

That is excessive, IMO. I support severe punishment for rapists, but I’d only support straight life for repeat or serial offenders.

Or if there are aggravating factors (e.g. torture, assault causing bodily harm, the victim is a child, etc)

As to the original article you posted, I’ve read about the subject on Bloomberg already and have no desire to click through to the Daily Caller - it being what it is, I’m 99% sure the comments consist of little more than:

Durr hurr, this is what you get from ending DADT and allowing gay marriage! Derp.

There’s a good bit of DERP there, but the article was properly and honestly written. I normally don’t read the comments for news articles, since I don’t need the DERP exposure.

Does a dozen reported incidents (while tragic and worthy of serious concern, and an issue that should be seriously addressed) constitute an “epidemic”, though? Sounds like a rare phenomenon, given those numbers. Yes, take steps to prevent its recurrence, but let’s not live in fright over letting our kids join a sports team over it. I think worse things happen outside of organized school activities, personally, where there’s no supervision at all.

See, I don’t think so. Someone who rapes another person has shown a Sociopathic disregard for other human beings. I simply think that if you do something like this, you should be locked away. The hazard of having someone released after serving for that crime, and doing it again is too great.

Wow, that’s disgusting. I hope that never happened at my high school.. the worst I ever heard about was the track team flashing one another as a sort of game, but that’s not rape. Ugh. And down into the elementary grades too. Fuck.

Sexual Assault of all types is on the rise world wide. IIRC, it is a response to our rapidly changing Brave New World. The need for Power and Control is an insidious vice. If we do not address this in an objective way, it will not abate.

Too see it thru any other lens is enabling the criminals.

Hazing or other cultural or religious terms do not apply.

This is crime.

In the situations mentioned in the article as with Steubenville, the adults involved need to be prosecuted. Instead, they have their contracts renewed and get to keep their jobs.

IMHO, The kids need an intervention not prosecution. Our prisons are becoming as mainstream as our schools. It is a bad situation.
