Speaking of heat, I was talking to a client at work the other day. She is a 78 year old business owner in Alabama. We were talking casually about the weather (of course) and she said to me “I am 78 years old and I have lived here in Alabama my entire life. I don’t care one bit what all these gullible people say around here it is getting hotter and quickly.” She then added ” Going back to my grandparent and great grandparents the weather here was steadily the same year in and year out. And we always had a little snow and freeze every winter. But now all the sudden the winters are like summers. The animal migrations the fishing and even the insects are all changing.”
She then said in a feisty tone “I am telling you, my husband and I think those global warming people are right!”

Falling Lake Mead Water Levels ‘Incredible Warning Sign’

The Colorado River — and Lake Mead — are in deep trouble.

Studies by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation show that demand will soon overwhelm supply. The first stage of water restrictions could come as soon as 2016, when Lake Mead has a one-in-three chance of slipping below the critical 1,075-foot threshold.

That’s when Nevada will have to cut its water allocation by 4 percent. Residents probably won’t notice the first round of cuts, said Pat Mulroy, general manager of the Southern Nevada Water Authority. Still, it is an important limit for Colorado River users.

“It is an incredible warning sign,” Mulroy said. “Because what happens at 1,075 is that you’re now getting in to the lower reaches of Lake Mead. And Lake Mead is a V. So the further you go down in the reservoir, the faster the rate of decline.”

Many in red states know the climate is changing. Their problem is that if President Obama and democrats/liberals/progressives say a certain thing, their immediate knee-jerk reaction is to oppose it. Some of the governors and state lawmakers in red states are addressing climate change issues, but they aren’t mentioning it in public because they know that if they use the word “climate change,” there will be a huge backlash from the Teahadists. The most vocal here in GA aren’t the mainstream conservatives, it’s the tenacious, rabid, largely uniformed TPers who make a lot of noise about every single issue having anything to do with the federal government. Our governor, Nathan Deal, admitted earlier this week that Common Core standards for education is not a federal mandate and has nothing to do with President Obama, but I don’t see it making any difference in what the TPers think about Common Core. They’ll keep showing up at local school board meetings and shouting down everyone there who tries to reason with them. The GOP made a huge mistake when it gave the TPers power because it put their politicians in a position where they’re unable to address any of our real problems at the federal or state level.
