I do not understand how some people think they have the absolute right to make others miserable.

If it was the KKK outside NAACP offices or neo-Nazis outside ADL offices would it be protest or harassment?

This seems to have fallen under “protest”, so I guess anything goes:

Aren’t the Westboro freaks required to keep a distance from any event they’re “protesting” and why are these freaks any different from the Westboro freaks?

Don’t even get me started about Bush’s “free speech zones” that were set up at quite a distance (and fenced in!) to keep protesters far from the cameras and his events. A mere 35 feet does not keep “pro-life” protesters from speaking or being heard. It does prevent protesters from physically interfering with the rights of patients to walk freely into a building for LEGAL medical care. Given how many attacks there have been on clinics and their personnel, a little distance seems called for.
