Discarded Romney Campaign Swag Now a Huge Hit in African Villages
An American volunteer for The Orbit Village Project in Kenya, a charitable foundation for orphans and children whose parents cannot care for them, collects clothing, school supplies, and gifts for schoolchildren. Her nephew worked for the Romney campaign and had tons of worthless Romney T-shirts after election day 2012.
The result was the discarded shirts were sent to Kenya, where they’re now a huge hit with kids and some adults, too.
There’s some disagreement among comments on the Buzzfeed page where this story originated as to whether the donations will have a negative effect on native textile trade. The chatter reached no point of consensus.
There is nonetheless something wonderfully ironic about this story. Romney is now all but forgotten in our rearview mirrors, but his name lives on in Kenya.
