He is mathematically correct. $34,000 does indeed puts you above the tens of millions in Sudan, Bangladesh, and Somalia that live on dollars per year. You should appreciate that he, and his fellow landed gentry allow you to flip his burgers Now, get back to work, serfs and stop condemning your liege lords.

$34,000 per annum here in the Czech Republic would probably put you in the top 20%; however, Mr. Koch’s comparison is laughable. He’s wholly ignoring standards of living. Sure, on $34K you could live like a God-Emperor in Bangladesh, or even Uganda, but the standard of living there is dramatically different in both cases.

Perhaps he’s suggesting that average Americans should press their political representatives for a return to serfdom; then Americans can sell themselves to their feudal masters (such as Mr. Koch) in return for a pat on the head after they tug their forelocks and say, “Good day, my liege.”
