•Project Clean Uluwatu•
This is absolutely needed for Uluwatu, an area of Bali that gets visited by hundreds of people everyday - surfers, girlfriends, tourists, shopkeepers and businesses. Modernizing the sewage system there is overdue. Any surfer that has gone there or dreamed of going there should try to donate whatever they can to this cause.
Project Clean Uluwatu was started by a couple of concerned residents here who teamed up with NGO’s, local business owners, and the surf industry about 2 years ago. After hauling out 30 tons of rubbish from above the cave, then installing a solid waste collection system in partnership with ecoBali recycling, we’re now working to install a central processing system to handle the liquid waste from the kitchens and toilets on the cliff. This system has been a challenge, as the location is on such steep land so close to the ocean. But, we’ve used professional surveys to come up with a practical solution and have now begun construction.
We’re looking for help to raise another $35,000 this year to finish it and finally solve the problem of sewage and kitchen waste at our break.
