Is this like … you know,… science?

Because if it is, there is no way in hell those bible thumping asshats currently occupying positions of power in far too many unfortunate states will read, understand, and most assuredly, adopt any legislation based on its conclusions.

This is news to nobody outside St. Louis and the American south. Europe has been following this practice for years; it’s why their abortion rates are so “strangely” lower than America’s, despite them being Godless Heathens. According to the Guttmacher Institute, Western Europe’s abortion rate (11 per 1000 pregnancies) is half that of North America (22 per 1000). (Numbers for “Europe” were formerly skewed by including the USSR, where abortion rates were very high).

Another study from the same source shows the incredibly dramatic decline in abortion rates in Eastern Europe when good contraception became available after the fall of the USSR:

Restrictive laws are associated with HIGHER rates of abortion all over the world. The difference is that the abortions are extremely unsafe.

but just think about this…. women, sleeping with whoever they want, enjoying themselves, free from child rearing responsibilities, why it’s absolutely revolting to think of unfettering 50% of the population and removing a potential lever by which we can continue to divide the masses.

If the “pro-life” movement was really about saving “lives”, and not about controlling women, they’d be all for the far-and-wide distribution of birth control. Their actions spell out their true motivations.

Precisely. Really, the best way to prevent abortions is to make birth control more readily available and not slut shaming those that do use it. You make a good point, if they were really about a culture of life, they’d champion birth control but no we’re actually seeing a rise in those who are vocal not merely about their belief that the USSC got Roe wrong but also Griswold and Eisenstadt which legalized birth control for married and non-married couples respectively.

You may think you have your tongue firmly in cheek, but believe me, I know a number of people who will tell you with a straight face that “Birth Control is Evil because it subverts Gods will, and separates sex from its intended purpose of procreation”. After all, once you take away any consequences, we are no better than animals.

It’s much like the Same Sex Marriage (SSM) issue. Not one person has managed to explain to me just how that would threaten straight marriages. It’s not exactly like it’s a Zero-Sum game, and every marriage a gay couple gets eliminates one from the pool for straight folks.

I’ve also had people tell me that the plot to make free contraception available is also related to the “Gay Agenda” (whatever that is). I’m not sure that they fully understand the implications of what they are saying.

Yeah, but those people are full of shit.

And it really, really isn’t about “God’s Will” to them. God’s Will is whatever they want it to be, based on their own narrowmindedness. Sure, they have a right to believe that way, but then we have the right to point at them and laugh.

As I get older, I suffer fools less and less gladly.

I’m just fine with being a Human Animal. I freely admit it. I was born that way.

It’s about controlling PEOPLE.

If an entity (government, church, tyrant, charismatic psychopath) controls the means to RE-Production, they control the working class.

Individual Choice is an Economic Issue.
