And they said Syd Barrett was crazy. Roger has shown time and time again his bigotry and ignorance. Shame. No wonder David Gilmour wanted to drown him.

…We watched the tragedy unfold
We did as we were told
We bought and sold
It was the greatest show on earth
But then it was over
We ohhed and aahed
We drove our racing cars
We ate our last few jars of caviar
And somewhere out there in the stars
A keen-eyed look-out
Spied a flickering light
Our last hurrah
And when they found our shadows
Grouped around the TV sets
They ran down every lead
They repeated every test
They checked out all the data on their lists
And then the alien anthropologists
Admitted they were still perplexed
But on eliminating every other reason
For our sad demise
They logged the explanation left
This species has amused itself to death
No tears to cry no feelings left
This species has amused itself to death.

Other symbols featured in a similar way at this concert: crosses, Muslim crescents, Shell logos, dollar signs, Hammer & Sickles, Mercedes Benz logos.

First of all, the imagery Charles referred to has been a part of this show since it began nearly three years ago. You must be blind not to have seen the crosses and crescents in the clip posted above.

Second of all, I would agree that it is indeed crass to put the six pointed star on an inflatable pig. Now are YOU willing to agree that being crass is not really at all the same thing as going “Full-on Gobbels”? Waters is expressing his disdain for Israeli policy in a way that you (and I) disagree with. That falls quite short of advocating and helping to create conditions for genocide in my book.

No the Star of David is new, he’s equivocating, and using tired old tropes.

Thank you for exactly saying what I’ve been thinking since I saw this Page last night. The “full-on” Goebbels reference is absurd hyperbole. It doesn’t help in the defense of Jews or Israel—in fact, it just makes the person saying it sound irrational (and therefore easily dismissed).

No, you’re wrong, the Star of David is NOT new. Here’s a screenshot from the video Charles posted—there are clearly several of them mixed in with Christian crosses, Islamic moons & crescents, a hammer & sickle, and a host of other symbols. Here’s a photo of another pig from 2007 which says “Religions Divide”.1

Mr. Waters apparently doesn’t like ANY religion. He also clearly doesn’t like a lot of the stuff governments do, including his own and those of the US & Israel. Expressing that—no matter how strongly you or I or anyone else disagrees with him—does NOT put him on a level with a monster like Goebbels.

Star of david on a pig - is not anti-zionism.

When did the subject change to anti-Zionism? Your failure to acknowledge that you were wrong about Waters’ previous use of the Star of David, your refusal to acknowledge how hyperbolic your use of “full-on Gobbels” [sic] was, and now this moving of the goalposts are all things that indicate I’m wasting my time with this discussion. I don’t like playing games about such a serious subject.

Well, since Waters depicted crescents (along with other symbols) as bombs dropped on the world that are capable of causing bloodshed & suffering, then it clearly means he’s an Islamophobe and is on a par with Radovan Karadzic. //
