Is Delta trying to make United look like paragons of customer service? I’ve heard several nightmare stories lately and all involved Delta.

At that point, couldn’t somebody at least had the brainpower to gather a few flight attendants or mechanics or somebody to carry him? Is there anybody over the age of 6 who doesn’t know how to link arms with a pal to make a chair (like when one of your troop breaks his leg on the day hike and has to be carried back down the hill…)

Delta couldn’t even be bothered to go to another airlines that had the proper equipment. Disgraceful.

I can’t say I’m surprised. My wife needs a wheelchair and the bigotry and stupidity people display towards the disabled is mind boggling.

Something doesn’t smell right.

Though a car accident in 2000 left him unable to walk and entirely dependent on a wheelchair

Baraka Kanaan (aka Dreamingbear)

Moar here.

Here he’s walking around on a stage in 2009 allegedly 9 years after he was in “a car accident in 2000 left him unable to walk and entirely dependent on a wheelchair.” The cane as you can see is prop.

Yet obviously not a paraplegic. Hmmm.

Ahhh…

I try not to judge, but I’m getting the feeling that this guy’s a quart short of a gallon of Kool-Aid.

He’s weird. This could also be bad reporting. From his weird website:

The second reason for DreamingBear’s Transition to Baraka this year is because on 8/8/12 he will be undergoing a major spinal cord fusion surgery called the extreme lateral inter-body fusion or XLIF. It’s a new procedure, which offers hope to alleviate his physical disability. He has dealt with the pain of having 7 discs in his back blown out from a motorcycle accident for more than a decade now (MRI scans show significant injury and damage to his spine). After countless modalities for healing (including spinal decompression, stem cell therapy, and even monthly outpatient spinal-tap procedures to relieve the extreme pain and paralysis), spinal fusion is the last and best option. Here is a little paragraph about XLIF for those who’d like to know what it is: XLIF - or eXtreme Lateral Interbody Fusion - is an innovative approach to spine fusion, accessing the spine from the side of the body instead of the front or back like traditional methods. The spine can be approached from the mid-thoracic spine to the L4-5 disc space in the lower back. This side entry means sensitive back muscles are not disturbed and no bone removal is required. This means less postoperative pain and early return to normal function. By avoiding a direct frontal approach, there is less risk of injury to structures in the abdomen such as the large blood vessels, bowel, and the kidney draining tubes. And because there is little muscle dissection, less bone work and smaller incisions, there is less blood loss, less operative time, and less pain to the patient as compared to standard open spine surgery. With this surgery DreamingBear feels that it is time to reinvent his message & artistic expressions in this world, hence the launching of Baraka.

The guy may be a fruitcake, but if he proves he was a candidate for this surgery before the flight, Delta is screwed. Spinal injuries can be deceptive and the pain and other symptoms can be variable depending upon the amount of instability occurring in the column. XLIF is a real procedure. Here’s a page from UCSF:

Well, I imagine Delta has some pretty good lawyers, so if he isn’t wheelchair bound and this is all some sort of shakedown he’ll be nailed.

I agree that he seems to be a little “off”.
