New ‘Doctor Who’: It’s Peter Capaldi

And the sonic screwdriver goes to Peter Capaldi.

The Scottish actor was named the new star of the British sci-fi franchise Doctor Who on Sunday during a live broadcast on BBC America. He will replace the departing Matt Smith, whose time in the time-traveling police box the TARDIS ends later this year.

“It’s so wonderful not to keep this secret any longer,” said Capaldi, a lifelong fan of the show. “I haven’t played Doctor Who since I was 9 on the playground.”

Capaldi, 55, becomes the 12th man to play the Doctor since the cult show debuted in 1963 with star William Hartnell and the fourth Time Lord since executive producer Russell T Davies rebooted Doctor Who in 2005, following Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant and Smith.

He’s the same age as Hartnell was when he played the Doctor, and was in Fires of Pompeii along with Karen Gillan. Kudos to whoever cast that episode.

I have something in mind for a future Doctor…

Us looking at the TARDIS as the Doctor regenerates inside “AAAHHH, I’m DEFINITELY a girl this time! Sonic screwdriver, check…oh…my”

(dirty minds would of course think the Doctor had discovered undocumented uses for the sonic…then the scene cuts to the Doctor looking at her new face)

I’m…GINGER!!!

(then the Doctor runs out to save the Companions and the world from whatever trouble they’re in…)

This scene I’m imagining is one from a story I have floating through my head…featuring the final appearance of The Rani, and the Daleks

Actually he seems to be a fan to the point of stalkerdom:

This is David Tennant all over again.

Except David Tennant married Peter Davison’s duaghter, who played the Doctor’s daughter, and subsequently had a daughter with him.

Or, in other words, A Doctor’s daughter who played the Doctor’s daughter and then had the Doctor’s daughter.

Peter Capaldi is going to have to try really damn hard to beat Tennant for “King of the Fanboys” award.
