If only the student had had a gun to defend himself.

OTOH

I’m all in favor of teaching about gun safety. But shouldn’t there be standards on who does the training? I mean, really. Always treat a gun as if its loaded, duh.

Illiterates shouldn’t teach english comprehension. Pyromaniacs shouldn’t teach fire safety. And idiots who apparently don’t know rules of gun safety shouldn’t be teaching gun safety.

I’d make a joke about background checks, but I’m in no laughing mood.

Even with the best possible teachers, you’ll have a certain number of fuckups. Guns are inherently dangerous— their purpose is to be dangerous. We can reduce, but never eliminate, accidents.

You guys know per capita gun accidents are declining steadily for decades right?

Are sheer numbers going down, or are fatalities going down?

In general, the more guns, the more gun deaths. Which is pretty common sense.

My point is the gun accident rate. As per the topic. A gun accident.

Some may consider this link to be interesting reading. A guy unhappy with the Glock design (less safe than guns with other designs) went looking for the numbers. sleepless.blogs.com

Accidental discharges happen, this is true. But thats the very point around which the rules of gun safety revolve. Never point a gun in someone’s direction if you don’t intend to shoot them. Accidental discharge or not, nobody would’ve been hit if there was nobody in the line of fire. Thats not only my point, but the whole point of gun safety. This was entirely the “instructor’s” fault, that unqualified f***ing moron.
