I like how these people just assume that they’ll automatically become a new state.

Sorry, morons, but it doesn’t work like that.

Aww, how cute that rural Colorado wants to secede now that they are a minority. Reminds me of how every few years we get a proposal for inland California (plus San Diego and Orange County) to secede and form their own conservative utopia. Good thing this will never happen.

Anyways, I would set the first condition of admitting notDenver as a 51st state that the District of Columbia receive full congressional representation. Any chance that Republicans want to make that bargain?

Heck, I’ve seen wingnuts respond to this idea by suggesting other conservative areas do the same thing because then there will be lots and lots of conservatives in both the House and Senate. Apparently liberals would never do this, so, Victory!
However, even most of the wingnuts realize it’s not gonna happen.

I just wonder how they think northeastern Colorado and the corners of Nebraska and Kansas (who might join up to create the new state) are going to support themselves. Agriculture, especially dryland agriculture simply doesn’t bring in the revenue they’d need. This is particularly true in a time when folks are beginning to realize they’ve been drawing down the groundwater in a totally unsustainable way.

So here’s the funniest thing to me. Say they secede, where are they going to put the state capital? Most likely answer, Greeley, as it’s the largest population in those counties. Now consider that the current complaint is how the rural counties aren’t getting representation, and then look again at the state capital having well over half the total population of the four counties, and ask yourself what happens next.

Schadenfreude comes to mind. And petards.

Every road going in and out of that county should have punitive tolls.

They’re not even technically trying to secede. They’re trying to kick the rest of us out. Their state will continue to be California and the counties they kick out will have to choose a new name.
