You have to care to give a damn in the first place. So many Americans look upon the ever increasing deaths by guns, domestic and child abuse, and abductions and kidnappings as something that happens to others, not them. They also look upon these incidents as being just another day in America. They have no real desire to do anything about it. If they did, they’d be motivated to elect politicians and other officials who would be willing to address these deaths, find the offenders and try them in the courts. Many Americans are great at saying certain things but are slow to act on their beliefs. Joe Arpaio, supposedly “America’s Sheriff,” sat on his behind and failed to investigate hundreds of cases of sexual abuse in Maricopa County, and the tools re-elected him last year for another four year term! Arpaio spent a whole lot of time hunting “brown people” and none on making sure that abuse victims received justice.

A big part of the problem is the infatuation with quick solutions and strong personalities. Who is more electable, the measured person who offers difficult, 10 year solutions, or the person with bravado who offers easy solutions in 10 days? 10 days wins due to lack of foresight.
