Due to an error with ABC New’s Twitter app, Neil Armstrong started trending Aug. 27 because of a tweet that was mistakenly sent out. The tweet said “Neil Armstrong, First Man on the Moon, Is Dead.” However, legendary astronaut died on Aug. 25, 2012. Many reports online claim it was a hoax, but really, it was just a mistake.

They tweeted the link of an article about his passing to commemorate the anniversary of his death, which was originally written on the day he died, but included a more current video. The update accidentally changed the timestamp on their mobile site, so when others saw and shared the story, it looked like it was a new story that was published on Aug. 27, 2013. Whoops!
