Of course, if he denied being gay, well, we all know what that means!
//

Apparently Mr. Lonegan has no policy positions to discuss. Not even one little thing that might actually be relevant?

Gay or not, Booker’s got actual policies that can be debated. You can debate whether he’s improved quality of life in Newark. You can debate whether he’s improved the visibility of the city and that has translated into a safer or better city for its residents.

You can debate whether he’s tackled issues of education or poverty and whether they’re sufficiently liberal, progressive, or neoliberal or what have you. You can even debate whether Booker put his political ambitions above those of his constituents.

But Lonegan isn’t debating the merits of Booker’s policies or politics. He’s focusing on the fact that Booker wont tell you what his sexual orientation is and that is somehow relevant to the campaign.

Booker’s got Lonegan all flummoxed and his response shows that Lonegan’s got…. nothing.

This may win Lonegan points among the right wingers, who weren’t going to vote for Booker in any event, but most New Jerseyeans couldn’t care about Booker’s personal relationships unless those undermine his ability to be Senator. Booker has charisma and style, to say nothing of his policies and skills, to win over most anyone.

Now, there are ways that Booker’s personal life could affect his ability to be a US Senator.

Being gay in and of itself doesn’t do that.

Being straight in and of itself doesn’t do that.

But say being involved in a relationship (either gay or straight) that could lead to blackmail would undermine his ability to be Senator.

So far, no media outlet has sniffed anything of a scandal involving Booker’s personal life. That goes for the APP, Star Ledger, The Record, or the Philadelphia or New York papers.

We haven’t seen Booker hiring friends or confidants who have no experience to jobs that require tons of experience (like say McGreevey hiring a close friend to a homeland security post that he had zero experience for). That would be scandalous - but that’s not the case here with Booker. He’s been the public eye for more than a decade without the slightest bit of scandal - from either his public or private life.

It’s all innuendo from Lonegan, and that will get him nowhere.

Apparently this moron has nothing substantive to discuss, and so he must resort to petty insults to fill the void.

Lonegan’s tactics are so sleazy that he’ll need a firetruck ladder just to rise to the level of gutter politics.

Lonegan has also appeared on Fischer’s show, so he’s keenly attuned to the right wing and religious extremists.

And the GOP rebranding effort continues to amaze.

If he had a personal life, he wouldn’t have the time or energy to shovel constituent’s sidewalks, rescue them from burning buildings, or get kittens out of trees… so there’s that.

What’s “weird” is Lonegan’s fascination with Booker’s sexual orientation.

8 HappyWarrior  Wed, Aug 28, 2013 11:34:47am

Lonegan seems very uncomfortable with his own sexuality if you ask me. Look at me, I’m a straight guy who enjoys scotch and cigars. Okay, Steve I enjoy whiskey myself but you don’t see me putting down guys who don’t. Booker may well be gay but it doesn’t mean shit. So this straight white guy would be happy to support the possibly gay African American Cory Booker over your sorry ass.

Lonegan seems to think he’s running for the Senate in GA, OK, MO, or TX because he’s using the “be afraid of the gay guy representing yoru state in the Senate” card in a state where civil unions have been legal since 2006. What a moron.
