Principal Sacked at Elite Swedish Boarding School
The Lundsberg School, a boarding school often used by the rich and famous in Sweden to educate their young, has been in hot water since earlier this year, after revelation of how new students are hazed (back in April/May this year, it was revealed that new students were hazed by forcing them to eat feces and perform oral sex, among other things), allegedly with the permission of the schools leaders.
The other day, Swedens School Inspection chose to shut down the Lundsberg School after yet another hazing incident came to light, this time new students being burned with clothes irons. The school now has 6 months to implement changes and plans to prevent hazings, then it can open again.
The School Inspection cited, among other things, that the inspection prompted by the burning incident revealed that the plans, steps and changes the school came up with in the spring, after the first revelations of hazing came to light, have not been implemented. The School Inspection is also concerned with the morals and values taught at the school.
Of course, the 200 students are upset, and so are the parents, but scratching at the surface reveals that some of the parents flat out deny there have been any problems whatsoever at the school, nit-picking about how the School Inpsection chose to shut it down, accusing the School Inspection of abusing its position.
One conservative MP, Maria Abrahamsson (m), has publically stated that the school was shut down because of class hatred. The conservative youth league chairman in Lidingö, Carl Henrik Lindblad municipality says the School Inspection shut down the school out of the “jante law” (read: spite). MEP Gunnar Hökmark (m) and regional politician Mimmi von Troll (sic(!)) (m) accuse the School Inspection of collectively punishing the students of the school for the actions of a few students.
But the golden derp award goes to MUF chairman Dennis Jernkrok, who called the shutdown “a way for the state to demonstrate its power over minorities”. Never mind that the party whose youth wing he is a chairman in is the majority in the ruling center right alliance in the country. A center right alliance which has for the 7 years had a track record of not interfering with anything unless they really have to.
The mudslinging on the issue is ongoing, and I thought I’d give you guys a heads-up, because I have this hunch that people like-minded to Moderaterna here in Sweden might decide to use it over on your side of the pond, as well as point out that conservative derp is nearing epidemic proportion on a global level.
I could go on on how the school system here is being dismantled by the centre-right alliance policies, but I won’t, this issue is very infected as it is already.
