The comments have started at officer.com. Predictably, the victim is blamed for his own death, beware of teh scary superhuman black guy, and race riots, natch.

3 trained police officers can’t physically subdue an injured man?

For that matter, they can’t bother to find out what happened?

No, no racial judging in this country. No sir. racism is a thing of the past.

I bet the cop gets off in the trial.

If the black guy was not wearing a tie and jacket, he had no right to expect to live.
I seem to recall that Bill O’Reilly has established that fact.

Policeone.com now has the story up as well. Their version says he “charged” at the officers repeatedly….sorta implies he was a bull or something.

My God.

The comments at Policeone are usually toxic, and this promises to be truly lethal. (For example, several cops at Policeone mocked the 11 people who were shot by accident in a bad incident in New York last year by police, and made derisive, nasty remarks about ‘worthless bloodsuckers’ and their lawyers who wanted a lawsuit against those poor NYPD officers who shot them…)

Which reminds me, two woman were “accidentally” shot in Times Square last night by cops who were chasing a mentally ill man who pointed a finger at them in imitation of a gun. The cops at policeone will have a good time mocking them as well.

If police officers around the country want to know why African Americans, Latinos and increasingly, white Americans fear and distrust them, this can be labeled exhibit 6,238…and counting…

Exhibit 6239.

[Update] Cops Mistakenly Shoot Two Female Bystanders In Times Square

Police shot two female bystanders in Times Square last night while confronting an emotionally disturbed man who “simulated shooting the officers.” A 35-year-old man was acting erratically—weaving in and out of traffic—in the middle of W. 42nd Street at Eighth Avenue around 9:35 p.m. Saturday night. When cops attempted to detain him, he suddenly “reached into his pocket, took out his hand, and simulated as if he was shooting at them,” Commissioner Ray Kelly said. You can see photos and video of the incident below.

And here is how the NYPD covers their own lack of judgement:

Update: Cops have now identified the emotionally disturbed man as 35-year-old Brooklyn resident Glenn Broadnax. He has been charged with menacing, obstructing governmental administration, riot, criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. The names of the two officers involved in the shooting have not yet been released.

All these charges for an unarmed man running in and out of traffic in Times Square.

1st comment at policeone.com…

An unknown person charges, especially at night, and a taser has no effect. Who cares if they are coming out and now saying he was unarmed. Sounds like a 40cal enema was the right call. I would like to see the toxi report. I wonder if it will be herion or meth that shows up possitive.
The officer should be cleared ASAP

They never disappoint.

Now the victim DESERVED his 40cal enema and he was on heroin or meth to boot. Of course, the scary black man was charging them. Not approached the officers, or even ran towards them…he charged. So he had to die….at least, until they found out he was an injured accident victim. That part doesn’t seem to be mentioned too much at Police.com.

I need to stop looking at these officer approved sites. I feel physically ill.

This kind of stuff, combined with my own experiences with police, is why I try to give them as wide a berth as possible.

It’s a tough job and I wouldn’t want to do it. It unfortunately seems like for every officer trying to do a good job, there’s another who is essentially a bully who shouldn’t be allowed to be a crossing guard, let alone an armed office.

I haven’t been to policeone.com, but if what you’re saying is true, I hope to God those guys are the exception to the rule.

Do police recruits have to undergo a psychological/character study of any kind before getting badged?

Or, is that a budget and size of force issue?

Couple thousand polices forces with differing rules and results. Some are quite generous:

I really hope they are as well. The comments are by definition a self selected sample, which means they have no statistical relation to the police community at large. That being said, an awful lot of the folks there frankly terrify me.

The comments on the NYC shooting are actually critical of the police involved, which is a rarity. Two accidental shooting incidents in a year involving bystanders in NYC seems to be too much even for the folks at Policeone.

Batshit crazy “Chief” Mark Kessler sure as hell didn’t.

Obviously black people must be accompanied by white people whenever they venture out of their allowed area - for their protection, of course. I’m surprised the O’Luffa hasn’t brought that up yet.

Comment at Policeone disparaging the people and victims in NYC from last night who will seek damages for being shot:

This is a liberal city who hates the NYPD.

Comments regarding Mr Ferrel who shot in Charlotte trying to get assitance are almost universally blaming the him as a thug who deserved what he got. The one and only person who disagreed has already been flamed as a cop hater who needs to be banned from the message boards as not being a real cop.

16 moderatelyradicalliberal  Sun, Sep 15, 2013 1:43:23pm

Holy shit. I went to FAMU.

I guess he should have been wearing a suit and tie.

17 subterraneanhomesickalien  Sun, Sep 15, 2013 1:47:26pm

I guess if he were wearing a hoodie he would have had two in chest as soon as the police made first contact.

His choice of apparel seems to have given him an extra three of four minutes of life it appears.

Cops(or cop wannabe’s) shooting an unarmed black man, just another day in America.

This isn’t about fashion, it’s about the timing. Floridians and Carolinians of the Black persuasion should know to stay in their homes after dark.

re: #12 celticdragon

If any incident has anything to do with a black male, celticdragon, the comments are usually vicious and defaming to the individual and to all black persons. One only has to look at how many Americans automatically say that Trayvon Martin’s hoodie was a good reason for George Zimmerman to kill him because it meant TM was a thug. I was reading an article on an Atlanta Journal Constitution blog yesterday about a black college student’s positive experience in a formerly all white sorority at my alma mater, UGA. It was a nice article, but it brought out the racists who saw their job as being that of posting every negative thing they could find about crime and black Americans as a response to the positive experiences the young lady has had in the sorority. It was awful. The racists had turned a very positive letter into a reason to denigrate Black Americans. Now, the strange thing is that these are the same people who claim that it is blacks who always play the race card. They seem to think that we should say nothing in response to the racism they’re displaying constantly. They even want to gag President Obama and restrict his right to share how he feels about race. There is definitely something wrong with these folks because they can transform something positive written by one black person into a rant about how violent and racist all blacks are.
