As Rachel Maddow reported a few days ago, America really is the world police for weapons of mass destruction: we’ve helped secure and destroy WMDs from Kazakhstan, Mexico, South Africa, and all over the world. So if Assad follows through (as applying to the Chemical Weapons Convention suggests) we can expect Syria’s chemical weapons to be safely tucked away for later disposal.

Everyone really needs to watch this to the end, apparently this direction was first proposed at last year’s G-20 by the U.S.

Yes, Randall, but, but, but, President Obama had to wait for Putin to pull his butt out of the fire, don’t you know? Imho, it is the ignorance of the American people that inflicts the most damage on this country. We have many on the right who have elevated Putin to godlike status, without knowing who/what he is. John McCain wants to respond to Putin in Pravda, but Pravada won’t publish any anti-Russia/Putin op-ed.

“The other is that on Friday his spokesperson, Brian Rogers, said McCain had accepted an offer from Pravda to write an op-ed response to Putin’s. Time Magazine and Politico both were taken in and carried the announcement on Friday.”

“But Pravda made no such offer.”

“Pravda knew nothing about it. Boris Komotsky, Pravda’s editor, took to the party’s website to answer, in a piece titled Sen. John McCain wants to answer? saying, “There is only one Pravda in Russia, it is the organ of the Communist Party, and we have heard nothing about the intentions of the Republican senator.”

“First Secretary of the Communist Party Gennady Zyuganov opined via the party’s website in a piece titled, GA Zyuganov - John McCain: “If you support the position of the Communist Party on Syria, then publish your article that “it is surprising that McCain did not bother to inform either the leadership of the party or the editors of Pravda.”
