There doesn’t have to be any particular reason one of the women lost; there are 51 of them, and 50 of them have to lose. Though I will say the nutters response to the new Miss America doesn’t bode well for Bobby Jindal’s presidential aspirations.

Exactly. What makes a woman from Kansas who shoots a gun MORE truly “American” than a woman from NY who may not shoot gun? Nothing.

This is just more red vs. blue (and white vs. brown) bullshit from the far right. These are people who think America’s way of life—to them, meaning white and Christian—is seriously endangered because Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists each comprise about 1% of the US population.

The stupidity, ignorance, and arrogance of people like Starnes are the real stumbling blocks that keep us from moving forward to a nation in which great things can happen. Although they always think of every issue in terms of race, who is/isn’t a real American, and what the face of America should/shouldn’t look like, they’re also busy accusing others of dividing the nation. Self-introspection isn’t something they engage in. EVER.

I could care less about the Miss America competition but the attacks on Ms. Davuluiri are disgusting. If Starnes has any integrity at all, he’ll apologize to her personally. What a fucking tool. I’m sure the Miss Kansas is a nice young woman too but Starnes had no fucking right to attack this woman because she doesn’t fit his agenda. And honestly as I said that I have no interest whatsoever in the paegant, I think it’s really cool that a daughter of immigrants can win. She represents American values too Todd, just because they’re not yours doesn’t give you the right to act like a hateful fuck.
