I don’t understand why the grocery and discount chain stores don’t seem to be pushing back against all of this balleyhoo, cutting SNAP is bad for their bottom line too

The savings would be achieved by allowing states to put broad new work requirements in place for many food stamp recipients

Yeah, because the unemployed don’t need any help, right? /sarc

and to test applicants for drugs.

When Florida started requiring drug tests for welfare recipients, the state saved less on denying benefits for those who tested positive than the total cost of conducting all those drug tests. In other words, a net loss for the state of Florida.

Hey, lets implement that program nationwide. /sarc

These “money-saving” measures have nothing to do with curtailing waste and everything to do with reinforcing dumb old stereotypes about the poor.

Cynical f***ing snobs!

re: #2 EiMitch

They learned from Florida in the respect that now they want to leave it up to the states to mandate individual applicants to pay for their own drug testing before qualifying for assistance.

Probably because they know this is just more D.C. posturing. Even if the House bill passes, the Senate won’t approve it.
