OK but,

Why do people camp out for days, stand in a line that is blocks long, for a product that will be available everywhere?

What is so special about this product release frenzy, especially since you already know there is a countdown until the next product release frenzy?

By restricting preorders, Apple led more people to line up to buy iPhone 5s than the last two models. Rumors about supply shortages fed the demand beast and interest in being one of the lucky few — another incentive to line up outside stores.

Not to mention all of the white/goldtone 5s buyers who immediately put their new phones up for sale on Ebay at 100%+ markups.

Yet another reason to keep my Android.

This deliberate manipulation in order to fuel a frenzy is just so freaking lame. But it works for the Apple execs and the resellers, who else benefits?

A really, really great marketing machine. There’s also some speculation Apple may have held product back a bit to artificially generate lines.

I could see standing in line when the iPhone first came out in 2007. Now, it’s ridiculous. Just wait the the 3 frigging weeks until the supply chain ramps up.

It’s a huge marketing game, like Black Friday, except Apple fanatics just have to have the latest gadget first. Then they spend the rest of the day Tweeting and posting on FB about their huge accomplishment to shame their friends who only have the old model.

I have two Ipads and two MacBook pros, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to wait in lines for days to get the newest ones first.

I don’t wait in line, either, but I’ll definitely be getting an iPhone 5s as soon as they have stock again. Already ordered from the Apple site.

I actually need a new iphone. My 4S is currently held together by bubble gum and duct tape, but sure in hell I’m not going to wait in line for hours to get replacement on the release date. I can manage a few more weeks.

Apple is doomed! No one cares about their products anymore. At least, that’s what the pundits and the stock market keep telling me.

That’s just leaving money on the table. I don’t think artificially long lines does much for a company, even one time, let alone multiple times.

There were numerous stories during the ramp up to the launch about production issues that were limiting the number of units produced. Maybe these things had something to do with how the products were released.
