A play. From 1955. Flash forward to 2013.

What are they afraid of? Independent though? A varied view? A court case? A trial? All of the above? The theater owner should just close his theater. The real owners just told him what to do.

I’m beginning to think a zombie apocalypse is not so unlikely after all. These creo-fools are about 3 quarters of the way there already.

Headline is misleading; the “theatre owner” probably had no choice once his cast was pressured to withdraw. He was only “bending” to reality; it was members of the cast who were bending to outsiders’ demands.

“They hold Genesis as literally true.”

As if.

I’ve always found those folks wear poly-cotton shirts, get haircuts, and enjoy shrimp cocktail.

“We felt it was not compatible with what [the school] teaches the Bible says about the universe and the world,”? said Schone. “This is a ministerial school. People employing our students need confidence about their views.”

In other words, we are so insecure in our beliefs that the possibility of someone being exposed to other ideas is such a threat that we will simply deny that they exist. What we can’t see can’t hurt us.

RBS
Probably won’t be seeing Lysistrata at the New Ulm Summer Stock I suspect.

We’ve come a long way but you read stuff like this and it just shows you that we have a long way to go. And you know what creationists, tough shit, but you actually without knowing it validated the play’s portrayal of you as narrow minded idiots sticking to a religious book while the rest of us live in the modern world. I actually saw this as a play at Fords Theater when I was in 8th grade. It was one of the things that woke my eyes to how people use religion as a tool to control people. So, I guess in that way they’re right, these fundies don’t want people thinking for themselves or questioning norms.

We cannot and must not take any of the social progress made since 1955 for granted.

I certainly do not given I believe especially that was the year the Emmett Till tragedy happened but this story shows we still have a long way to go on social progress.
