To which the teahadis reply, “It’s only a flesh wound! Come back here, you coward, and I’ll bite your legs off!

I like how the Magical Balance Fairy got worked into this story.

For example, “Democrats aren’t wildly popular either.”.

No, they’re just an insignificant 15 points above the GOP. Basically statistically tied, Chuck Todd and Wolf Blitzer would say.

3 Danack  Thu, Oct 10, 2013 5:58:24pm

Or as @billmon put it more clearly:

WSJ/NBC poll
Somewhat/Very Positive
Obama: 47%
Dems: 39%
GOP: 24%
Tea Party: 21%
John Boehner: 17%
Ted Cruz: 14%
Cockroaches: Not available

I stand by what I said earlier; the fact that Cruz and the TeaParty are below the crazification factor level of approval means that the split in the GOP has already begun, and I doubt anything can stop in now.

GOP now the most unpopular political party ever measured by Gallup

5 majii  Fri, Oct 11, 2013 1:12:22am

Cruz has been sort of silent lately. I think he should be in front of every camera now the way he was when he, his dad, and DeMint were touring the country and pushing for this shutdown. That he’s not indicates to me that he’s a bomb-throwing coward who knows how to incite others for personal gain but has no idea about how to deal with the crises he creates.

I wonder at the sanity of the tea partiers and other republicans who thought he was up to the challenge of being POTUS #45. I can see him now. He’d stir sh*t up around the world, and when the sh*t hit the fan, he’d be MIA, hiding out in the secret complex under the WH, sucking his thumb and hoping the crises would resolve themselves. I am glad this colossal ass’s self-centeredness, cowardice, and inability to govern was exposed by the shutdown.

>with 53 percent saying the GOP deserved more blame,
>and 31 percent saying Obama did.

This still demonstrates that almost half of us are not rational people.

If everyone was sane and paying attention, that 53% would be 100%. Instead tribalism has almost half the population refusing to place blame on the people responsible. It’s progress that some of the Republican voters now refuse to blame Obama, but they’re clearly just shutting down mentally instead of taking the next step and placing the blame where it belongs.

He will be this weekend. This is the “Values Summit” weekend, where every single RW crackpot gets to speak.

Alas, ultimate number cruncher Nate Silver says that the effect of the shutdown on next November’s election are likely to be minor, but all bets are off if the GOP allows a debt default.

I once thought claims that Republicans could eventually lose even Texas were a longshot, but it seems like they’re working hard at delivering dreams.

The Virus: What Went Wrong?Another world-class example of investigative journalism from the good people over at Frontline, this one examining the COVID-19 pandemic and the Trump administration's badly bungled response to it.
