Infamous Pepper Spray Officer Wins Thousands in Compensation Case

After a video showing police officer John Pike pepper spraying Occupy protestors at the University of California-Davis campus in November 2011 went viral, Pike allegedly received death threats and suffered depression.

The stress was so great that Pike was able to reach a settlement with his former employer for $38,000 in a workers compensation suit this week for the psychological damage he suffered, reports the Guardian.

The poor lamb. The people he pepper sprayed are lucky he doesn’t sue them.

Somehow after seeing that guy and what he did you just knew he turn around and cry about how he was treated. Big tough man walking about getting his jollies spraying young people with pepper spray. He’ll get his in the long run. I believe in karmic justice.

No, because the union is required to take the officer’s side in a case like this; that would be like hating on a public defender who gets assigned to defend a child molester.

UCD should have been able to prosecute it better, but (not that this excuses any of the asshole’s actions or his reactions), I might suggest that having your home address and phone number broadcast across the Internet so you can be harassed by anyone who’s sufficiently pissed off isn’t necessarily the right way for the justice system to work, either.

A column at Policeone.com yesterday advised officers to do exactly that if they are named in use of force lawsuit.

You see…she just kept beating her face into my baton! She damaged my equipment!
