Israel promotes non-Jews to command key units, the Palestinians murder Jews solely for being Jews.

Who’s the villain? The question answers itself.

Actually, “Colored” and Asian soldiers, occupying a “favored minority” position analogous to that of the Israeli Druze, did attain commissioned officer rank in the apartheid-era South African military. The success of Colonel Alian is perfectly compatible with the “apartheid Israel” theory. Nice try, though.

re: #2 William Burns

I must have missed the part of the linked article discussing the non-white officer was elevated to command a major, top-line and front-line unit in a sensitive zone at an especially sensitive time in the sector. But you already knew that, didn’t you? Just as you know full well that Col. Alain could never have been promoted to command the Golani Brigade if there was even a smidgen of truth to support the apartheid smear you seek to peddle. Congratulations on a well deserved down-ding for the double offense of dishonesty and proudly unvarnished stupidity.

The standard work on Blacks in the apartheid era South African military, Kenneth W. Grundy’s Soldiers without Politics, identifies a Coloured officer as second in command of the Ruacana Air Base on the border of Angola (p. 192), although its second-hand. Seems fairly closely analogous to Colonel Alian, given the sensitivity of the Angolan border to South Africa.

re: #4 William Burns

Except that Israel does not crowd Israeli Arabs into townships or barren ‘homelands’, nor does it deliberately seek to keep them under educated. So even if South Africa allowed a few non-whites to rise to positions of authority, it was still oppressive in many ways that Israel is not. That is why the ‘apartheid’ accusation is load of baloney.

Agreed, Dark Falcon, the fact that the dominant group allows a few people from the subordinated group to rise to positions of authority just doesn’t mean all that much, does it?

It may not matter, but it depends on the totality of the situation. Israel has practiced a far more tolerant policy towards its minorities than South Africa did in the bad old days. South Africa actively worked to keep its black population down, and gave some opportunities to Colored people, Indians, and Asians (these latter two being the descendents of people brought to South Africa by the British for labor) as way of making those people their allies against the black population. Israel has not and does not practice the sort of ‘divide and rule’ that the Afrikaners learned from the British.

I suppose the Arab Muslim President of Israel in 2007 was just a fluke, too, hmmm? The fact that he was “only acting president” means that Israel is an apartheid country, I suppose? Disgusting how persistent bigotry is.
