I personally do not support the delay of any aspect of the Affordable Care Act.

These are Dems in competitive seats. I see it as purely political and doubt it will go anywhere.

If the website problems continue past Thanksgiving, then it could be another issue.

I’m sure the detractors will latch onto something else and continue the negative spin.

That’s a safe bet since the detractors have been like rabid dogs since 2009 on the issue of healthcare. Fact is the GOP doesn’t have any plan for healthcare reform, they’re fine with the status quo. How do we know this? The last time a leading Republican even suggested any major reform was back in the 90’s…his name was Bob Dole.

This issue just is not a priority for the gop. Their original response to ACA was “repeal and replace”. Well, they’ve tried to repeal 40+ times. But they haven’t yet proposed a replacement, despite having 4 years to do so.

As far as I know, Obama is already considering extending the deadlines for enrollment. This isn’t really a big deal. If he has to delay the mandate for a year, that would be a much bigger problem. Either way, to the extent that Obamacare is a major issue then, next year’s midterms will hinge on “Obamacare sucks” (the gop position) vs. “Republicans want to repeal but not replace healthcare for millions who have it NOW but didn’t BEFORE”. That’s a much harder argument for the gop to make: once the benefit exists, taking it away is a much more difficult sell.
